Explore acrylic painting, collage and image transfer techniques! To begin, artist Maud Besson will present all the necessary materials and how to use them. You will then learn how to create a collage background, paint a beautiful textured sky using acrylics, and use image transfer techniques to integrate decorative elements into your work. Step by step, Maud will show you all her techniques!

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 12 to 99.

Part 1: Getting to know your materials

To begin, Maud will show you which paper to use to make collage backgrounds on canvas, as well as which acrylic mediums can be used to glue them. She will also talk about acrylic paint and brushes.

Part 2: Making the project (Step 1)

In part two, you will glue newspaper to create your background. Then, once you’ve let it dry and applied gesso, you will paint your subject. Maud will discuss collage techniques and suitable papers, as well as how she uses acrylics to create both washes and more opaque effects when painting clouds.

Part 3: Making the project (Step 2)

To end the workshop, Maud will guide you through the steps to achieve a successful image transfer.


List of materials to bring:

✓ HB and/or B pencils
✓ Eraser
✓ 1 cardboard or mounted canvas (8 x 8 in)
✓ Gesso
✓ Gloss gel medium
✓ Paintbrushes in all sizes (square brushes, round brushes, fine brushes) with hog bristles and synthetic bristles; including one 3/4" square brush, one 1/2" square brush and one 1/4" square brush
✓ Acrylic kit (or just 4 colours) *We will use Primary Blue, Primary Yellow, White and Black.
✓ Decorative paper or newspaper for the collage
✓ 1 glass jar of water
✓ Rags
✓ A well palette to mix your colours
✓ Hair dryer
✓ The PDF template printed out before the workshop

To properly complete the image transfer, the hot air balloon must be laser printed, or printed using a commercial copy machine.
