Drawing & Watercolour Workshop: Animal Portraits (FR)

Explore drawing and illustration techniques while creating magnificent animal portraits. In this all-level workshop, artist Maud Besson will first demonstrate the necessary materials and how to use them. You will then learn how to produce semi-figurative and stylized illustrations, as well as beautiful animals using watercolour paint and coloured pencils. Step by step, Maud will show you all her techniques!

Part 1 : 
Getting to know your materials

To begin, Maud will show you all the materials needed for the workshop, including papers, felt-tip pens, as well as watercolours and brushes.


Part 2 :
 Creating portraits

In part two, you will have the chance to discover or rediscover several drawing techniques. Maud will explain her techniques for producing proportionate and harmonious animals. She will also present simple and practical tools for applying colour using watercolours, as well as enhancing details, shadows and light effects using coloured pencils. All of this through easy-to-follow steps!

 

List of materials to bring:

✓ DeSerres graphite pencil set (HB or H)
✓ Staedtler eraser
✓ Natural bristle watercolour brushes (medium #12 and detail #2)
✓ Watercolour paint (minimum 10-12 colours, in jars or tubes) +1 black
✓ Watercolour paper (sheet, 9 x 12 in or smaller OR minimum 300 g)
✓ A well palette to mix your colours
✓ Various coloured pencils (Faber-Castell, DeSerres, Maped, etc.)
✓ Masonite board (approximately 11 x 14 in)
✓ Low-tack masking tape
✓ 2 jars of water
✓ Paper towels
✓ Cloth
✓ Hair dryer
✓ Watercolour paper to test colours before applying them
✓ A printed copy of the PDF file with the templates needed to complete the projects during the workshop
