Venture to the moon, while learning all the basics to charcoal drawing! In this introductory drawing workshop, you will explore some basic charcoal drawing techniques, such as blending and lifting, as well as how to add value to a drawing to create depth and contrast. This workshop is great for beginners interested in this medium, as well as intermediate artists who need a refresher.
Open to beginners and intermediates.

Part 1: Material overview, initial sketch and background layer
In Part 1, Gabrielle will go over all the necessary materials. She will then demonstrate how to lay down your underlying sketch and background layer.
Part 2: Adding water and fine-tuning with blending and lifting techniques
In Part 2, you will continue to add dark areas of charcoal to your drawing. Gabrielle will then demonstrate how to blend and lift areas on the picture to create detail and depth.
List of materials to bring:
✓ Paper with tooth/texture (e.g. watercolour paper, 140 lb, cold press; pastel paper; minimum 8 x 10 in)
✓ Charcoal pencils and sticks (medium)
✓ Blending stump
✓ Kneadable eraser
✓ White vinyl eraser
✓ Graphite pencil (HB or darker)
✓ Circular object to trace your moon shape (Gabrielle used a cup)
✓ Drawing support big enough to fit your paper size (Gabrielle used a masonite board)
