In this introductory class, students will learn how to create a linocut print. The class will break down all the different steps to achieve this, including transferring an image onto lino, carving, and printing the linocut. This class is great for beginners as well as for experienced artists looking for a refresher class in linocut printmaking.
Open to beginners and intermediates.

Part 1 : Material overview and image transfer
In part one of this class, Gabrielle will go over all the materials being used in the class. Part one will conclude with Gabrielle demonstrating how to transfer an image onto lino.
Part 2 : Carving and printing
In part two, Gabrielle will demonstrate how to carve the lino. The class will conclude with printing the carved lino.
List of materials to bring:
✓ Lino - I recommend choosing a smaller size for this class (e.g., 4”x6”)
✓ Carving tools (burin)
✓ Paper - I use cardstock
✓ Masking tape
✓ Carbon paper or graphite paper (for transferring the image)
✓ Sharp pencil (HB or harder)
✓ Roller (brayer) - I use a 4-inch roller
✓ Baron or metal spoon (for printing)
✓ Linocut printing ink - at least two colours
✓ Simple image of your choice or choose one of the templates provided. Remember to flip the image as it will print backwards.
