Make Your Own Linocut Holiday Cards (EN)

In this class, students will learn how to make their very own linocut print Christmas cards. Students will learn all the steps: transferring an image onto lino, carving, printing and assembling the cards.

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 16 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview and image transfer

Gabrielle will go over all the materials used in the class. Part one will conclude with Gabrielle demonstrating how to transfer an image onto lino.


Part 2: Carving and printing

In part two, Gabrielle will demonstrate how to carve the lino and print. Part two will conclude with assembling the cards.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Lino - I recommend choosing a smaller size for this class (e.g., 4”x6”)
✓ Carving tools (burin)
✓ Paper for printing on - I use cardstock
✓ Paper for cards - I use cardstock
✓ Masking tape
✓ Carbon paper or graphite paper (for transferring the image)
✓ Sharp pencil (HB or harder)
✓ Roller (brayer) - I use a 4-inch roller
✓ Baron or metal spoon (for printing)
✓ Linocut printing ink - at least two colours – I recommend something festive
✓ Simple image of your choice or choose one of the templates provided. Remember to flip the image as it will print backwards.
✓ X-Acto knife
✓ Metal ruler
✓ Cutting pad
✓ Palette knife
✓ Double-sided tape
✓ Plexiglass plate (acrylic sheet) for rolling ink on
