Create a series of miniature paintings with trees, mountains, rivers, skies, and more! In this landscape painting workshop, BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel will break down the elements of landscape imagery and guide you through painting techniques using a variety of brushes and tools. The perfect workshop for nature lovers.

Open to beginners. (Ages 14 to 99)

Part 1: Materials and techniques

Kathryn will provide an overview of the painting tools, as well as cover colour mixing, sketching and underpainting techniques.

Part 2: Landscape painting elements

In part two, Kathryn will guide participants through the techniques to paint trees, mountains, rivers, skies, etc., using acrylic, watercolour and oil paints.

Part 3: Eco-conscious cleanup + Q & A

To end the workshop, Kathryn will share helpful tips for developing a more eco-conscious painting practice through responsible brush cleaning and maintenance methods. She will then answer all your landscape painting questions in a Q & A.


List of materials to bring:

✓ Canvas pad/paper or watercolour paper (9 x 12 in)
✓ Acrylic, water-mixable oil or watercolour paints (Naphthol Red or Cadmium Red Hue, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light or Bright Yellow and Titanium White)
✓ Mixed media paintbrushes (flat, round and filbert; synthetic bristles; sizes between 2-8)
✓ Paper towel or painting rag
✓ Masonite board/support board (minimum 10 x 13 in)
✓ Painter’s tape
✓ Two recycled glass/plastic jars
✓ Palette or palette paper
✓ Palette knife
✓ Pencil
✓ Eraser
✓ Easel (optional)
