In this botanical-themed workshop, you will learn different watercolour techniques: wet-on-wet, layering washes, creating fine details, negative space, etc. You will then dive into the step-by-step creation of a tulip and a hibiscus, where you will also learn how to add depth to your background with an "out of focus" effect. It’s time to bring the flowers to life!

Open to beginners and intermediates.




Part 1: Overview of materials and techniques

To begin, Marie-Hélène will present all the necessary materials for the workshop. She will then demonstrate watercolour techniques to create a botanical artwork.

Part 2: It’s time to bring the flowers to life!

Here, you will practice all your newly acquired techniques, as Marie-Hélène guides you through the steps for creating a tulip and a hibiscus. You will also learn how to add depth to your work.

Part 3: Q & A

To conclude the workshop, Marie-Hélène will provide additional creative tips and answer all your questions about watercolour painting.


List of materials to bring:

✓ Watercolour paper, 9x12, 140lbs - Cold-Pressed
✓ Watercolour set (10 or 12 colors including one magenta and one pink)
✓ A few round, synthetic bristle brushes in different sizes (one big, one medium size, one small)
✓ Masking fluid
✓ Two jars of water
✓ Paper towels
✓ Roll of masking tape
✓ Well palette for mixing colours
✓ Lead pencil
