Watercolour Lettering (EN)

Learn to express yourself with watercolours and brushes. Spark your creativity by combining the beautiful art of drawing letters with the ethereal quality of watercolours. Watercolour is a delicate and beautifully forgiving medium used for many art forms.

Join Liz for this workshop as we discover how we can maximize the features of watercolours for calligraphy to create many different textures for our lettering pieces. The skills learned in this workshop can also be applied to other water-based mediums such as Ecoline and Tombow brush markers and Crayola markers!

Open to beginners.
Ages 13 to 99.

Part 1: Get your materials ready

Introduction to tools and supplies for watercolour lettering. Liz will go over the basics of watercolour as a medium and how we can use it in different ways.


Part 2: Basic brush strokes and drills

Follow along with Liz’s live demonstration and get comfortable using a paintbrush!

Part 3: Lowercase letters and lettering styles

After learning the basic strokes, Liz will demonstrate different styles of letters that you can create with a paintbrush. She will also share some of her blending tips which will allow you to use any water-based medium (markers or paint) to create beautiful blends for your artwork!

 

List of materials to bring:

✓ Small round paintbrush (Size 00, 0, 1 or 2)
✓ Watercolour paper
✓ Ecoline Liquid Watercolour Inks - Colours recommended to start: 205 (Lemon Yellow) , 337 (Magenta)  and 578 (Sky Blue Cyan) - I will be using these for class demonstration.
✓ Jar of water
✓ Paper towel
✓ Optional: Water-based markers (grey cold light : RGB: D9 E0 EA et  RGB: C7 CF E0)
