Watercolour Summer Landscape on Yupo (EN)
Create a beautiful and vibrant summer landscape with watercolours! In this two-hour workshop, you will learn how to lay out an initial sketch using a photo reference, before painting an abstract summer landscape using watercolour paints and watercolour crayons (watercolour pencils can also be used).

You will also explore the highly texturized effects of watercolour on Yupo paper. A lovely workshop to enjoy summer!

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 12 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview and initial sketch

To begin, Gabrielle will go over the necessary materials for the workshop. Using a photo reference, you will then create your initial sketch using watercolour crayons or pencils.


Part 2: Watercolour paint application and lifting of paint

In Part 2, Gabrielle will go through how to paint a summer landscape using watercolours, applying two to three layers of paint. Final steps include lifting out highlights on the Yupo painting surface, and then adding any finishing touches.

 

List of materials to bring:

Yupo watercolour paper (minimum 8 x 10 in) *plus a scrap sheet for testing colours
✓ Watercolour palette (takeout tray or lid will also work)
✓ Student and/or professional grade watercolour paint : a warm blue (e.g. Ultramarine Blue), a cool blue (e.g. Cerulean Blue), a warm yellow (e.g. Cadmium Yellow), a warm red (e.g. Cadmium Red)
Watercolour crayons OR Watercolour pencils
Watercolour brushes: #2 round, #4 round, #6 round
✓ Paper towel or cloth
✓ Water for paint (in jar or container)
Masking tape
