Andrea Hurtarte

Of Guatemalan origin, Andrea Hurtarte is a visual artist practising in her hometown of Montréal.

Although her passion for painting and drawing began very early, her love for watercolour flourished during her studies at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Andrea's artwork is deeply rooted in spatial depth, inspired by her background in architecture. She explores the notions of juxtaposition, spontaneity, as well as linework as a finite or infinite medium. She devotes a lot of time and attention to finding the right colours for her works.

Andrea's artwork calls for femininity, revealing intimate moments. Her work creates a refined tension between clear and fluid forms, prompting a change of perception between the layers. She currently creates in her own studio called the ANML.
