Golden Artist Colors, Inc. began in June 1980 in a 900 square foot renovated cattle barn. Having spent the first 30 years of his paint making career working alongside his uncle at Bocour Artist Colors, Sam Golden got together with family members and friends to found a company that would embody his dedication to professional artists, work he described as simply "making tools for artists." In 1985, the addition of a factory to the original barn gave the company 6,200 more square feet of space. As the building grew, so did product lines. The company gained recognition and support, and won awards for its excellent products.
Another 31,000 square feet were added to the facility in 1997, at which point the original barn structure had to be taken down. The surge in growth, sales, and employees was eclipsed by sadness when Sam Golden died at the age of 82.
Golden Artist Colors, Inc. became employee owned in 2002. It continues to grow as a sustainable company and is still dedicated to creating and sharing the most imaginative and innovative tools of color, line, and texture for inspiring those who turn their vision into reality.
