Summer Poncho

This soft lace summer poncho will add a delicate touch to your beach or picnic attire, and is sure to draw attention. It’s such a versatile accessory! Wear it with a summer dress or a pair of jeans, or over a bathing suit.

Instructions:

1. Cast on 44 stitches

2. *Purl 2, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, purl 2, knit 2; repeat from * until 2 stitches remain, purl 2

3. Knit the following 12 rows until piece measures roughly 27” (small), 29” (medium) or 33” (large) inches ending on row 12.

Row 1: *K2, p2, k2, p3; repeat from * to end, k2.
Row 2:*P2, k3, p2, k2; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 3: *K2, p2, k2, p3; repeat from * to end, k2.
Row 4: *P2, k3, p2, k2; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 5: *K2, p2, k2, p3; repeat from * to end, k2.
Row 6:*P2, k1, drop next stitch off needle and let it unravel the 6 previous rows (it will stop unraveling when it reaches the yarn over stitch) k1, p2, k1, yo, k1; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 7:*K2, p3, k2, p2; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 8:*P2, k2, p2, k3; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 9: *K2, p3, k2, p2; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 10: *P2, k2, p2, k3; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 11: *K2, p3, k2, p2; repeat from * to end, p2.
Row 12:*P2, k1, yo, k1, p2, k1, drop next stitch off needle and let it unravel the 6 previous rows, k1; repeat from * to end, p2.

4. Cast off, leaving a long tail of yarn.

5. Fold scarf so that one of the ends is flush with the side of the other end (see diagram) and using long tail of yarn, sew ends together.

6. Decorate with fringe or crocheted flowers, as desired.
