One-on-One Art Projects [1 hour]

Wednesday, May 1st – Friday, May 31st— By appointment
In this private studio session, students can book a one-on-one appointment to work on a personalized artwork with guidance of the instructor. Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their artistic practice, improve their knowledge of DeSerres art materials, apply techniques, develop compositional development, and work on a personalized artwork in the process. Projects can range from drawing, mixed media, and painting with acrylics, oils or watercolours. Students are required to book a free consultation with the instructor to discuss their projects prior to registering for their private studio session.

Intermediate Collage and Resin on Wood [2.5 hours]

Friday, May 24th — 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In this project-oriented class, students will create personalized collage artwork on wood panels using photographs and polymer medium. Through a step-by-step process, the instructor will guide students through the techniques to give their collages a high gloss and archival finish using professional quality resin. Students are encouraged to bring printed photographs, magazines and newspapers. Additional images will also be provided. The skills learned in our Introduction to Resin class are an asset, but not required.

Introduction to Watercolour Brushwork Techniques [2 hours]

Saturday, May 25th — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
In this introductory painting class, the instructor will introduce students to different types of natural and synthetic watercolour paint brushes and painting techniques. Students will learn how to apply these techniques to create a series of watercolour painting studies on cold-press watercolour paper.

Advanced Floral Embroidery Projects [3 hours]

Sunday, May 26th — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
In this project-oriented class, students will learn step-by-step embroidery stitching techniques and create a floral-inspired embroidery pattern from photo references. Students are encouraged to bring a printed reference photo to personalize their embroidery patterns. Photos will also be provided.

Intermediate Resin Tinting with Alcohol Inks [2 hours]

Friday, May 31st — 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In this technique-focused class, the instructor will introduce students to professional resin tinting techniques using alcohol-based inks. The instructor will guide students through the resin tinting process to achieve dimension through transparent and translucent layering. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with the materials and techniques to create abstract resin artwork on plexiglass. The skills learned in our Introduction to Resin on Wood class are an asset, but not required.

In this intermediate painting class, students will be introduced to professional watercolour painting techniques using masking fluid, plastic wrap, salt, rubbing alcohol, and more! The instructor will guide students through the application of these techniques to create a series of beautiful watercolour texture paintings on archival cold press watercolour paper. The skills learned in our Introduction to Watercolour Painting class are an asset, but not required.

Introduction to Oil Painting [3 hours]

In this introductory painting class, the instructor will introduce students to student-grade and professional-grade oil paints, paint markers, mediums and brushes to enhance their oil painting knowledge and practise. Students will gain hands-on experience with a variety of materials and painting techniques to create a series of oil painting studies. The skills learned in this class can be further developed in our intermediate and advanced oil painting classes.

Introduction to Fluid Acrylic
Painting & Colour Theory [2.5 hours]

Friday, June 7th — 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In this introductory class, the instructor will introduce students to a variety of professional fluid acrylic paints, mediums, painting techniques and colour theory application. Students will learn colour theory terminology, how to mix secondary and tertiary colours from the basic primary colours, and practise tinting and shading to create a unique colour palette for their paintings. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with the materials, practise techniques and create an abstract, fluid acrylic painting on canvas. The skills learned in this class can be further developed in our intermediate and advanced fluid acrylic painting classes.

They will also practise crosshatching, pointillism, shading, light/shadow techniques, and develop dimensional perspective to create a series of drawing studies. The skills learned in this class can be further developed in our intermediate and advanced drawing classes.
