Fontana - Barbara Hess

Italian artist Lucio Fontana literally tore the art establishment apart. Trained as a sculptor, he combined form and color in radical spatial gestures, most famously via his slashed canvases from the 1950s and 1960s. Regarded as the father of mid-century Spatialism, his provocative practices channeled postwar innovation as he pioneered a synthesis between art, technology, and science.

Each of the books published in Taschen’s Basic Art series features a detailed chronological summary of the artist’s life and works, their cultural influence and historical significance, a concise biography and approximately 100 illustrations with explanatory captions.
