Workshop 1: Introduction

Monday, April 1st

In Workshop 1, Julie will introduce you to all the necessary materials: papers, brushes and colours. You will explore several techniques such as brush charging and paint thinning on wet and dry surfaces, washes, gradients, fading and layering. She will also cover different brush strokes, paint lifting and bleeding, as well as how to work with sharp and blurred edges.

Workshop 2: Textures

Monday, April 8th

In Workshop 2, Julie will present different mediums, products and tools to create texture: gum Arabic, ox gall, granulation medium, masking fluid, salt, baking soda, plastic wrap, newspaper, tissue paper, etc. You will get plenty of tips and tricks to create all kinds of textures in your artwork.

Workshop 3: Colour Palette & Blending

Monday, April 15th

In Workshop 3, you will explore how to work with colour blends using a reduced palette of six colours. You will then run a grid to visualise all possible blends using warm and cool primary colours. Julie will also explain pigments and their codes, as well as show you how to customise your colour palette to suit your needs and tastes.

Workshop 4: Easy Landscapes

Monday, April 22nd

In Workshop 4, you will put into practice the theory covered in the first three workshops by creating small simple landscapes, flowers, etc. Julie will then explain how to varnish and frame a watercolour painting. The workshop will end with a Q & A session.
