Botanical Flower Drawing in Ink (EN)

In this class, students will learn how to create a botanical illustration using different types of inks.

Open to beginners.
Ages 13 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview and sketching out a composition

In part one of this class, Gabrielle will go over the materials that will be used in detail. Students will then follow along as Gabrielle sketches out a composition in graphite.
 

Part 2: Drawing in ink pens and india ink brushwork

Students will continue with drawing over their pencil lines with ink pens. The class will conclude with creating depth and contrast in the composition by filling in areas with various shades of india ink.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Watercolour paint set
✓ Paper: either bristol, watercolour or mixed media paper. Minimum size 9”x12”
✓ Waterproof ink pens (I used a size 05 Micron)
✓ Watercolour/ink palette
✓ India ink
✓ Graphite pencil (something lighter/harder lead)
✓ Eraser
✓ Paper towel
✓ Jar/container for water
✓ Watercolour brushes (round brush - around size 0 and 4)
✓ Round edge to trace a circle - minimum 6” (I used an upside down bowl)
