Intro to Watercolour: Brushwork Techniques (EN)

Let Gabrielle take you into her exciting world of watercolour painting! Gradated wash, flat wash, dry brush, wet-on-wet: in this two-hour workshop, you will explore a variety of introductory brushwork techniques using different types of brushes and application processes. A fun way to try your hand at watercolour painting – no prior experience necessary!

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 16 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview and set up

To begin, Gabrielle will present all the necessary materials. You will then be asked to prepare your painting surface with masking tape.

Part 2: Demonstration and exercises

In Part 2, Gabrielle will give a demonstration of techniques. She will then go through a few painting exercises. Expect many useful tips and tricks to get started!

 

List of materials to bring:

✓ Watercolour palette (takeout tray or lid will also work)
✓ Masking tape
✓ Watercolour paint (a few different colours)
✓ Drawing board (minimum 11 x 14 in)
✓ 2 sheets of watercolour paper (140 lb, cold press, minimum 9 x 12 in) *plus a scrap sheet for testing colours
✓ Assorted watercolour brushes (mop brush, #16 flat, #2 fan, #4 round)
✓ Paper towel or cloth
✓ Water for paint (jar or container)
