The Basics of Linocut and Printing on Different Media (FR)

Discover the magnificent technique of linocut, or perfect your technique! Work on a motif and create your own stamp and prints entirely by hand: an exciting workshop that you're sure to enjoy. Maud will show you all her techniques step by step and introduce you to printing on different materials, including fabric.

Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 12 to 99.

Part 1: Overview of the equipment you need to start linocutting

You'll learn more about the quality of engraving plates available in shops, the use of knives and blade shapes, the difference between inks, the ideal type of paper to use and the various materials used in this technique.
 

Part 2: Project execution

Several creations for engraving and printing will be reviewed - you'll see how to transfer a motif and how to engrave it. Maud will show you step by step how to create a linocut project that anyone can do.

Part 3: Printing on different surfaces

Maud will then show you how to print a design on different types of paper, then on fabric. She will also explain how to clean your tools.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Canson sketch pad 9x12 in.
✓ Multi-technique tablet 9x12 in. 160 gr. and/or Canson block mi-Teinte 9x12 in.
✓ Linogravure speedy cut plate (easy to engrave soft white plates) - 4x5.5 or a 6.75x11 inch that you can cut to any size you like
✓ Black water-based linocut ink
✓ Fabric linocut ink (optional)
✓ Linocut knife sets
✓ 2.5" or 4" rubber roller
✓ Frotton (optional if working with speedy cut white plates)
✓ 8x10 or 9x12 inch sheet of plexi (or glass) to spread the ink
✓ Sharpie fine black
✓ B pencil
✓ Cotton bag or piece of cloth or cotton T-shirt
✓ Exacto
✓ Cutting mat
✓ Ruler 10, 12 or 15 inches
✓ Cloths, cleaning wipes (baby wipe type) and toothbrush to clean the plate
