The smoothness and velvetiness of these pastels are the result of a perfect balance between binder and pigment. For gradient shades, increasing amounts of mineral fines are added, ultimately tending towards white. Their exceptional brightness is due to the quality of pigment used, as well as the natural mineral fines discovered by Sennelier in 1905, which have been used ever since.
