It only takes a few minutes of chatting with DeSerres expert Marcus Lamoureux to get a sense of his passion for art and the environment.
Marcus made a name for himself through his works in which he reuses a variety of end-of-life objects. Our expert truly creates art for the environment, and he does it with love. As he explains so well himself: “90% of the materials I reuse are destined for land fill. It allows me to help save the planet, one work of art at a time.”
Marcus got into art about 15 years ago, when he started creating abstracts and curating the works of other artists in Ottawa establishments. He adopted an environmentally conscious approach to art 12 years ago, when he first began working at DeSerres and found a box filled with old toys while looking for a canvas to paint: “While searching for my next canvas to paint, I found a box of toys that brought me to a different time and place. To a world where the old, broken and abandoned could take on another life.”
That's how Marcus became the high-spirited artist that he is. When he tells us about his creative process, we can feel the energy that fills him: “Even before I turn on the lights, my energy and excitement build. The smell of wood and past projects greet me. The lights come on, pushing back most of the shadows and illuminating the studio and all my toys. My dog takes her place next to my wooden work table. There is a moment of calmness that is coloured by anticipation, just before the sounds from the outside fade away, before I am transported to a place where time stops and everything is possible.” Needless to say, our expert knows how to communicate his passion and he perfectly embodies the concept of “recreation” in our re(art) program.
Marcus is part of our wonderful team of in-store experts who can help you with a wide variety of projects, guiding you every step of the way. Because at DeSerres, we know that the creative path is more important than the destination. Come and meet him!
