It is time to relax, grab a good book and dive into it! In order not to lose your page, we have prepared a creative project in partnership with our ambassador Lysa Jordan: a summer bookmark in watercolor. It is time to get your creativity out and create your bookmark.
MATERIALS:
- Watercolour paper
- Watercolour paint
- Paintbrush (Raphaël #6 synthetic brush)
- Watercolour pencils (Faber Castell)
- White pen (Gelly Roll 08)
- Black Pen
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1:
Before starting your project, you must cut your paper to the size of a “bookmark” (2 × 8 in). I used a cutting board and a precision knife. Afterwards, you can start by making a few light-coloured lines. For this tutorial, I used a lilac to make a few strokes in the background.
* To create this colour, I used a very dense purple, a little blue and some white, and I diluted it with a lot of water.
Step 2:
When the first watercolour coat is dry, apply a second coat. For this example, I added black brush strokes. I used less water to make my lines more opaque.
Step 3:
Then, apply a third coat. This time, I used a yellow ochre to create a few leaves. I applied more pigment and less water than on the first coat (the original lilac).
Step 4:
Then, I like to add a bit of pen strokes to my composition. I also add watercolour pencil strokes. I personally like to follow the movements I previously created, and I use a pencil to amplify them and give them more body. I try to create an interesting composition on my bookmark—and above all—to have fun and relax.
There you have it—a beautiful watercolour bookmark. You can laminate it to better preserve and protect it.
Happy creating and happy reading !
