How do I choose the right paper for my technique?
Weight and texture are the two key factors. For watercolour, a paper of at least 300 g/m² is recommended to handle washes without buckling: cold press has a slight texture that holds pigment well and suits most techniques, while hot press is smoother and better suited to detailed work and clean flat washes. Drawing paper is lighter and works well for graphite, charcoal and quick studies. Mixed media paper is designed to handle wet and dry media alternately without warping.
