As an Extender:

As a Fixative:
-Use as a fixative over artwork (acrylic paint, pastel, graphite, chalk, etc.) to increase gloss or shine. Mix 1 part Gloss Medium & Varnish to 1 part distilled water. Apply with an atomizer or airbush.

As a Binder / Adhesive:
-Powdered pigments or aggregates may be mixed into Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish, however they must be compatible with acrylics. This can be a cost effective way to make student grade soft body gloss paint.
-The archival properties of Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish make it ideal as a glue for collage materiels.

As a Ground:
-Use as a transparent ground for acrylic paint instead of gesso to allow substrate to be seen. To prevent substrate induced discoloration, wash cotton or linen canvas before use.

Golden MSA varnish is a mineral oil-based varnish which offers a resistant film. It protects acrylic, oil and alkyd paints.
Its film is less permeable than other water-based acrylic emulsion varnishes.

MSA varnish protects pigments against the loss of brilliance, gives an optimal brightness to the finishing coat, reduces dust penetration, protects against stains and provides a smooth film.

Important information :
Once dry, it can be removed with mineral oil.
Test the product on a work before using in order to check the compatibility of the solvent with the varnish. Incompatible solvents can coagulate, thicken or dim the varnish.
For application, do not use foam or sponge paintbrushes.

Do not mix with paints or mediums.

Golden brand crackle paste is a thick white and opaque gel specially made to leave cracks on a surface as it dries. The size and depth of the cracks depend on numerous factors, including the thickness of the applied coat, the support and drying conditions. It has a consistency similar to cake icing, easily manipulated by a palette knife. Peaks will maintain their height and appearance as the surface remains absorbent. Colours can be mixed with the paste or applied directly on the crackled surface.

Do not force dry Crackle Paste, nor try to slow the drying by adding Retarder or other additives, as both conditions may interfere with the products ability to crack. Product should be allowed to cure between 65 F and 75 F, and less than 75% Relative Humidity.

Golden Open Thinner is a water-based additive designed to thin the consistency of Open Acrylics without altering open time, as well as to maintain and adjust the workability of colors on the palette. Open Thinner contains no binders, does not form a film, and should never be used alone.

Add sparingly to acrylic paints, starting at approximately 10 parts paint to 1 part thinner. Maximum addition is 3 parts paint to 1 part thinner.

Open Thinner can also function as a thin-bodied retarder when used with Golden Heavy Body or Fluid Acrylics.

The Open series paints and mediums are best used in thin layers. Applications of more than 1/16 will result in: excessively long drying periods, persistently soft, higher tack feel, and translucent layers that remain cloudy. If it is necessary to apply paint in thick layers, it is recommended to use Golden Heavy Body acrylics.

Liquitex high gloss varnish enhances the intensity, transparency and luminosity of colours. It protects and improves the fluidity of paint and its adherence to supports. Of medium viscosity, it becomes transparent upon drying, stays smooth and does not yellow. Important information : For interior and exterior use. The permanent varnishes are irreversible and must always be tested before being applied. The painted surface must be completely dry (between 72 hours and 2 weeks, depending on thickness) before applying the varnish. Shake the varnish before use. For a better result, shake the varnish the day before and let it sit in order to avoid the formation of air bubbles when applying. The varnish can also be mixed gently with a stick before use in order to prevent the formation of bubbles. Apply 1 to 3 light coats, instead of one single thick coat. A thick coat will take longer to dry, may run or sink in during application and may result in visible paint marks when dry. Lay the work to be varnished flat on a table. Of thick consistency and of matte and opaque rendering, Liquitex light modeling paste dries slowly and results in a very hard surface.
