Extra-fine tip markers cover the range from 0.05 mm to 0.25 mm, the smallest line weights available in ink marker form. At these dimensions, the tip is not primarily used for outlines but for building texture: tight crosshatching, stippling grids, and surface rendering of materials such as fabric, fur, wood, or stone in naturalist illustration or comic art. This is also the range used in technical drawing and cartography, where line precision directly determines document legibility. A 0.05 mm tip produces a stroke that is barely visible at normal viewing distance, used for high-density areas or details that the eye reads as a continuous texture rather than individual lines. A 0.25 mm tip sits at the upper end of this range and suits fine outlines in small areas, miniature text, and annotations on sketches. These markers are available in black, sepia, grey, and several colours, making it possible to introduce colour into precision work without sacrificing line fineness.
