Van Gogh oil paint is formulated to deliver good pigment concentration and a buttery texture that works well with both brush and palette knife. The slow drying time of oil allows for blending directly on the support, reworking an area while it is still drying, and creating smooth transitions without visible reworking. The range is divided into two series based on pigment type: Series 1 groups colours based on common pigments; Series 2 includes rarer pigments such as cadmiums and cobalts, which offer particular chromatic properties that are difficult to replicate with substitutes. The 40 ml tubes suit most studio practices; the 200 ml tubes are intended for colours used in larger quantities, particularly whites and background colours.
