Watercolour Pet Portrait (EN)

Learn how to paint your pet using watercolours! In this two-part course, Gabrielle will break the process down into simple and manageable steps, as well as cover some of the basics such as sketching out your subject with a pencil, underpainting, and bringing dimension through glazing techniques.
 
Don’t have a pet? This course is also a great gift idea! You can either paint a pet for a loved one or friend, or gift them the experience. A fun workshop for any animal lover.
 
This class is designed for beginners as well as intermediate artists looking to hone specific watercolour painting skills.

Open to beginners and intermediates

Ages 14 to 99.

Part 1 : Material overview, colour mixing & initial sketch

Monday, August 8th at 6:00 P.M. (EST)

To begin, Gabrielle will present all the necessary materials. She will also discuss and demonstrate some colour theory, as well as how to achieve your desired colour palette. To conclude Part 1, you will begin to sketch out your subject matter with a pencil.


Part 2 : Establishing accuracy in your sketch & initial underpainting

Wednesday, August 24th at 6:00 P.M. (EST)

In Part 2, Gabrielle will continue teaching how to sketch out your subject, and then begin the underpainting.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Watercolour palette
✓ Watercolour brushes (a variety including a few sizes of round brushes (e.g. #2, 4 and 6)
✓ Watercolour paint (warm and cool primary colours are recommended for colour mixing; otherwise, whichever colours you plan on using in your painting)
✓ Watercolour paper (whatever type of watercolour paper you like using; 140 lb, cold pressed, with at least some cotton content is  recommended; minimum size 8 x 10 in)
✓ Cloth or paper towel
✓ Container or jar for water
✓ Painting surface such as a masonite board
✓ Masking tape
✓ White gouache
✓ White and/or black gel pen for whiskers and other details depending on your subject matter
✓ Printout of your subject matter
