In this class, participants will create an original gouache folkart painting of Niagara Falls using a variety of brushwork techniques and a limited colour palette.
Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 14 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview, sketch, and underpainting
In part 1 of this class, Gabrielle will go over all the materials being used in this course. She will then demonstrate how to lay out the initial sketch and composition followed by a layer of underpainting, blocking in main areas of colour.
Part 2: Secondary layers, dry brushing and watercolour pencil work
In part 2, Gabrielle will continue with secondary layers of colour, adding in more details. Gabrielle will then demonstrate a dry brush technique followed by any finishing touches and drawing with watercolour pencils.
List of materials to bring:
✓ Watercolour paper (at least 140lb, minimum size 5”x7” or larger)
✓ Watercolour brushes (a few round, #2, #4, #8)
✓ Gouache paint (primary blue, red, yellow and titanium white). Can be acrylic or water based gouache.
✓ Paint palette
