Introduction to Abstract Acrylic Painting (EN)

Join BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel for an afternoon of abstract acrylic painting. In this introductory workshop, Kathryn will introduce you to acrylic painting materials, as well as demonstrate abstract painting and colour mixing techniques to create a series of expressive abstract paintings. Learn to express yourself through abstract painting!

Open to beginners.



Part 1 : 
Get to know your materials

To begin, Kathryn will provide an overview of the painting materials, as well as demonstrate how to customize your colour palette.

Part 2 :
 Painting techniques & application

In part two, Kathryn will guide you through abstract painting techniques, as well as the creation of miniature paintings.

Part 3 :
 Eco-conscious clean-up procedures + Q & A

To end the workshop, Kathryn will demonstrate eco-conscious brush cleaning and maintenance tips to keep your tools in top shape. This will then be followed by a Q & A to answer all your acrylic painting questions.


List of materials to bring:

✓ Primed canvas or canvas paper
✓ Acrylic paint (including naphthol or cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cadmium or bright yellow and titanium white)
✓ Acrylic paint marker
✓ Acrylic paintbrushes
✓ Palette or palette paper
✓ Palette knife
✓ Painting rag or paper towel (Tip: upcycle an old cotton t-shirt!)
✓ Painter’s tape
✓ Support board (if using canvas paper)
✓ Glass jar with lid (recycled glass jar)
✓ Soap
✓ Easel (optional)
✓ Reference photo (optional)
