Develop your dry pastel technique by creating a portrait of a Husky dog. You will be guided through the initial sketch and then adjustments in contours, colour transitions and elements of detail, with the aim of achieving a realistic representation of the portrait.
Open to intermediates.
Ages 15 to 99.
*This workshop is recorded (you will receive the video link in 3 to 5 business days) after the workshop).
Part 1: Initial drawing
A 6X10 grid (1" squares) must be lightly sketched in pastel on the back (least textured side) of your half-tone paper before the class begins. We will place the drawing using the squaring technique. Work on visualising angles, empty spaces and volumes.
Part 2: Drawing in ink pens and india ink brushwork
Replicating volumes by applying light and dark shades in the right places.
Mixing colours to reproduce the shade of the hair. Working the transitions between shades to obtain the right gradations, modelling shapes and moving from one hair colour to another. Completing the hair, shades and depth effects.
Part 3: The finish and the accuracy of the details
Adjustments to the design, fades and details to obtain a realistic likeness and design.
