The Relaxing Art of Painting Clouds (EN)

Get inspired by the beautiful skies across Canada! Join BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel and create a series of cloud-inspired paintings on canvas or paper. You’ll explore shape, form and movement through the formation of clouds using your choice of acrylic, oil, gouache or watercolour paints.

With reference photos from her travels across Canada, Kathryn will guide you through the relaxing art of painting clouds, as well as demonstrate a variety of painting techniques and colour mixing recipes—and encourage your expressive style!

Open to beginners & intermediates.
From 12 to 99 years old.

Part 1 : 
Get to know your materials

To begin, Kathryn will provide an overview of the painting materials, as well as demonstrate how to customize your colour palette.


Part 2 :
 Painting techniques & application

In part two, Kathryn will guide you through acrylic, oil, gouache and watercolour painting techniques to create a series of cloud-inspired paintings.


Part 3 :
 Eco-conscious clean-up procedures + Q & A

To end the workshop, Kathryn will demonstrate eco-conscious brush cleaning and maintenance tips to keep your tools in top shape. This will then be followed by a Q & A to answer all your painting questions.

 

List of materials to bring:

✓ Canvas paper or watercolour paper
Acrylic paint (including naphthol or cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cadmium or bright yellow and titanium white)
OR Oil paint (including naphthol or cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cadmium or bright yellow and titanium white)
OR Gouache paint (including naphthol or cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cadmium or bright yellow and titanium white)
OR Watercolour paint (including naphthol or cadmium red, ultramarine blue, cadmium or bright yellow and white)
✓ Paintbrushes
✓ Paint palette
✓ Palette knife
✓ Painting rag or paper towel (Tip: upcycle an old cotton t-shirt!)

✓ Two glass jars with lids (recycled glass jars)
