Students will learn how to make an abstract spring landscape painting on Yupo using both watercolour pencils/crayons and watercolour paints.
Open to beginners and intermediates.
Ages 12 to 99.

Part 1: Material overview and initial sketch
The teacher will go over the materials being used in the class and then lay out an initial sketch using a photo reference in watercolour pencils/crayons.
Part 2: Watercolour paint application and lifting of paint
The teacher will go through how to paint the spring landscape using watercolours, applying 2-3 layers of paint. The final step includes lifting out highlights on the Yupo painting surface and then adding in any finishing touches.
List of materials to bring:
✓ Yupo watercolour paper (minimum size 8”x10”) plus scrap for testing out colours
✓ Watercolour palette - CLEAN clear or white plastic takeout tray or lid will also work
✓ Watercolor paint, student and/or professional grade: a warm blue (e.g. ultramarine blue), a cool blue (e.g. cerulean blue), a warm yellow (e.g. cadmium yellow), a warm red (e.g. cadmium red)
✓ Watercolour crayons or watercolour pencils
✓ Watercolour brushes: #2 round, #4 round, #6 round
✓ Paper towel or cloth rag
✓ Water for paint (in jar or container)
✓ Masking tape
✓ Reference photo
