Brook & Peony’s Magic Wands

Emilie Desjarlais and her daughter Brook, from Brook & Peony, put together this cute and simple project to create right at home. With the help of mom or dad, little magicians can make their very own magic wand. Fun for the whole family… Let’s get started!

MATERIALS:

  • Wood dowels (or a straw)
  • Paper or cardboard
  • Foamboard
  • Glue gun
  • Pearlescent watercolour palette
  • Ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Brush

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1:

Cut the wood dowels to about 10 inches in length.

Step 2:

Draw the star or the moon on the foamboard using the pencil. You can print a star and a moon on paper beforehand if you need a template.

Step 3:

Cut out the shapes with the scissors.

Step 4:

If you wish, paint the shapes and wooden dowels with watercolour.

Step 5:

If you choose the “shooting star” design, paint a double-sided cardboard rectangle in the same or different colour as your star.

Step 6:

Once dry, cut the cardboard into 1/4-inch strips for the shooting star’s bright trail.

Step 7:

Glue all parts of the wand together using the glue gun (ask mom or dad for help with this step).
