How to use Washi tape in a painting
Step 1: Mask out lines on your canvas with different thicknesses of Washi tape.
Step 2: Paint the canvas a solid colour with a foam roller. When the paint is dry, remove the tape.
Step 3: Place a stencil on the canvas and mask areas of the stencil with washi tape or scraps of paper. Paint the stencil with another colour of paint. Lift the stencil, remove the washi tape and wash and dry the stencil.
Step 4: When the paint is dry, place the stencil back on the canvas exactly where is was before. This time, mask off only the areas of the stencil that you have already painted.
Step 5: Paint the stencil with a 3rd colour, painting only the areas that were previously masked by Washi tape. Lift the stencil and admire your handiwork.
