Intro to Gouache Painting (EN)
Explore the colourful world of gouache! In this introductory workshop, you will learn basic gouache painting techniques to get you started: transparency, blending and layering. You will then use these techniques in some fun painting exercises.

Gabrielle will share all her tips and tricks! A lovely workshop for anyone wanting to explore the many creative possibilities of this versatile medium.
 
Open to beginners and intermediates

Part 1: Material overview and technique demonstrations

To begin, Gabrielle will go over the necessary materials for the workshop. You will then follow along as she demonstrates a few basic gouache painting techniques.


Part 2: Painting sugar skulls on cardstock paper

In Part 2, you will apply the techniques learned in the previous step and paint sugar skulls on coloured cardstock paper.

 

List of materials to bring:

Watercolour palette (takeout tray or lid will also work)
Gouache paint (water-soluble and/or acrylic-based; bring white, plus a few other colours to play with)
Watercolour brushes (round #4, round #6)
✓ Paper towel or cloth
Watercolour paper (140 lb, cold pressed, minimum size 9 x 12 in)
Colourful cardstock paper (any colour you like)
✓ Water for paint (in jar or container)
Painting surface (masonite board that fits your paper size)
