The Relaxing Art of Painting Clouds with Acrylics (EN)

Get inspired by the beautiful skies above! In this two-hour workshop, join BC-based artist Kathryn Wadel and create a series of cloud paintings on canvas or paper. You’ll explore shape, form and movement through the formation of clouds using your choice of acrylic paints. With reference photos from her travels across Canada, Kathryn will guide you through the relaxing art of painting clouds, while demonstrating a variety of painting techniques and colour mixing recipes, and encouraging your expressive style.

Open to beginners.
Ages 13 to 99.

Part 1: Get to know your materials

To begin, Kathryn will provide an overview of the materials. She will then create a composition sketch and demonstrate colour mixing recipes for a vibrant sunset.
 

Part 2: Cloud painting techniques

In the second part of the course, Kathryn will guide you through the steps of creating colourful clouds with acrylic paint and mastering colour gradations.

List of materials to bring:

✓ Graphite pencil
✓ Acrylic paints (Cadmium Red or Bright Red, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White)
✓ Palette
✓ Acrylic paintbrushes (filbert, flat and round)
✓ Palette knife
✓ Canvas paper or canvas (9 x 12 in)
✓ Masonite board/support board
✓ Painter’s tape
✓ Paper towel/cotton rag
✓ Two water containers (recycled glass jars)
✓ Easel (optional)
