Easily recreate the rainbow trend at home thanks to FIMO modelling clay and its large variety of colours. To decorate your tree, create a garland, decorate your gifts, or even to hang around the house, these small rainbows will perfectly match any decor and certainly bring some extra holiday cheer this year.
Project developed in collaboration with Chloé Comte, artist and DIY blogger.

MATERIALS:

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1 :

Warm up a little FIMO clay by forming balls in your hands, then form several long, thin strands by rolling the FIMO clay on a flat, smooth surface.

Step 2 :

Form rainbows by sticking 4 different colour strands together. Cut off the excess clay with the knife blade.

Step 3 :

Place the rainbows on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Form small holes in the upper and lower arcs of the rainbows using a clay tool. Bake the patterns according to the manufacturer's instructions (30 min at 110 °C-230 °F).

Step 4 :

Form balls with the FIMO Leather Effect clay. Flatten them and form a thin sheet of clay with the clay roller. Bake the clay sheets in the oven on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, according to the manufacturer's instructions (30 min at 130 °C-265 °F).

Step 5 :

Once the FIMO Leather Effect sheets are baked, cut strips that are the same length as the final pompom. Shape the pompom fringes by cutting them with scissors.

Step 6 :

Cut string and form a small loop. Place the string at the top of the fringe strip. Make a line with glue and roll, tighten the strip on itself to obtain a long pompom. Keep the pompom closed with pliers until the glue dries.

Step 7 :

Put pompoms and rainbows together with the string and place a string at the top of the rainbow so that they can be hung.

TIPS:

  1. Depending on the thickness of the polymer clay sheets, the oven temperature may have to be lowered. Testing is recommended.
  2.  You can mix colours or create gradients. For gradients, flatten 2 pear-shaped strands with the roller, folding them over several times.
  3. To accentuate the leather effect of the FIMO Leather Effect clay, stretch the clay sheets by hand.
